Year: 30 AP (After Pulse) (2170 old calendar)

Most people believed that mankind would kill itself. Others believed that the planet would kill us. Very few believed that the solar system would try to kill us. The truth is, it very nearly did.

The sun released a massive Electromagnetic Pulse during a solar storm of unprecedented proportions and tore the Earth’s magnetic field to shreds.

Power plants, substations, and transmission lines for entire cities and regions were fried. People became without power for days or weeks or permanently, leading to food shortages and untold crises. The effects on the economy were the least of our concerns.

The Electromagnetic Pulse caused widespread central nervous system damage and neurobehavioral disorders and society collapsed almost overnight. That was not all it caused.

Widespread mutant abilities began to appear among the survivors and wars for power between mutant factions and the human populace killed more survivors.

After a decade of struggle and strife, the two groups learned to live and work together in relative harmony. There is still some distrust, because who trusts someone that can pick the thoughts out of your head or can teleport you into the middle of the ocean?

Without electricity, growing food shortages, mental disorders on the rise and no hospitals to treat people, the global death toll ran rampant and without communications, the numbers were never quite known on exactly how many people died the first year.

In the years to come, mankind gave up on most technology and went back to a more agricultural way of life. Many old cities became homes to wild animals and were overgrown. Others were built up at crossroads and became known as Hometowns.

Its eyes glow…

Pyra grabbed a couple brands and set fire to them, tossing them in a circle around their small encampment. "Let's see how they like fire!"

Flora did not appreciate this kind of fire. She could already hear the grass scream as the flames licked the blades. The cacophony of that…
