Mission: Welcome to the Hometown

After the map and route had been shared among the three teams, Cordelia finished preparing her hang glider on the top of Kyleigh's fifth wheel for a quick take-off. She jumped down and looked over at the other young lady.

"Are you sure you believe this? Taking old Route Forty to Sixty-Four to Chesterfield and then to New London, and then what? Dig around in some old ruins to try to find magic beans to restart life?"

Did she believe it? No. Did she want to check things out for herself? Yes. "I don't know what to believe, to be honest. Part of me feels like if there were a way to restart life, someone would have found it be now," Kyleigh stated, watching the other woman prep her gear to take flight. "Still, it doesn't hurt to see if there's any truth to this for ourselves."

"You aren't wrong about that," the other young lady said before she stretched. "Where do you park this thing when you need to go fast?"

"I don't park it," Sparky answered honestly. "This kind of thing wouldn't stay put long if I did."

"But what if you're being chased or need to go faster?"

Kyleigh grinned. "A well placed bolt of lightning is a very good deterrent."

"You aren't wrong," the slender young woman said as she made a final adjustment. "What's your top speed on this hauling your camper?"

"Safely? Fifty-five. I can go faster if I absolutely need to," the blonde answered. "I can keep up with the others if you might be worried about that."

"Nah," Cordelia said. "That'll give me enough lift to get my glider up once we're under way. I always hate a slow lift from the ground unless it's a windy day and in my favor. Dragging that thing around waiting for a good lift really sucks at times."

Kyleigh could only imagine, and she supposed she could leave her fifth wheel behind, but it held a lot of things that meant the world to her. Without it, she would be truly lost. "We can definitely figure things out and make it work."

"I can hook my tow rope to the fifth wheel for the lift, but you'd have to reel it back in once I got up and released."

"If you want to stay anchored, we could do that, too," Sparky offered.

Cordelia laughed. "I don't fancy going for a drag if an air current takes me one way and you're going another. It makes for a bad landing."

She looked ahead at the land train and the bus that were starting to pull out. "I guess we follow them."

"Yeah, we don't need any bad landings," Kyleigh agreed as she got her bike started. "Hop on, then we'll get this show on the road."

Once Cordelia made sure she was happy with how things were packed and put away, she got onto the back of Kyleigh's bike. "Now to see if we're going on a wild snipe hunt or not."

"There's a big chance that we are," Kyleigh said as she took off behind the others. They would know soon enough, though.

The miles flew by and the two vehicles in front of them made no show of slowing down or stopping, but the sun still had a few hours before it would set for the night.

"Do you have a cushion for your ass on this thing?" Cordelia asked after a bit.

Kyleigh couldn't help but laugh. She kind of expected to hear that question at some point. "I do back in the fifth wheel, but it's not exact safe to use. You get used to it after a while. Before that, numbness will eventually set in."

The smaller woman on the back laughed. "After our first break, I'll take my glider up for a look see. It'll give my ass a break."

Sparky joined in on the laughing. "That sounds like a good plan. Maybe we'll be stopping soon. If they take into account we're on a motorcycle."

"How far can this thing go before it needs charged and how did you manage to find something like this in such good shape?"

"If can go indefinitely," Kyleigh replied. "She wasn't in the best shape when I found her, though. There was a lot of restoration involved. I did most of that myself."

"That's awesome!" Elixir said. "I had to hand make my glider and scrounge for parts when one breaks."

"We should look for parts for it while we're out here," Sparky said. "It would help in the long run."

"All I ever need is some plastic tubing, wire and canvas. Keep it simple since the Glitch happened, they say."

Kyleigh knew that saying well, and usually she would live by that, but her life was a bit more complicated than that. Especially when it came to the things she did to make a name and living. "It's great advice, but it only works for some people. I may have more than the average person, but it's necessary."

Elixir looked ahead and saw the train thing and school bus slowing down. "Looks like we get a rest butt break," she said.

Kyleigh laughed as she slowed the bike to a stop. She was used to long treks, but had to remember others weren't as accustomed.
